Loving Day Reflection

I can’t let #LovingDay pass without saying how grateful I am to have been able to marry the love of my life, Joan. It’s difficult to believe that interracial marriage only became legal throughout the United States 55 years ago, following the Supreme Court decision in Loving v. Virginia. As Mildred Loving said, “I am proud that Richard's and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, black or white, young or old, gay or straight seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That's what Loving, and loving, are all about.” At a time when the Supreme Court is attempting to roll back fundamental rights that we thought were long settled (Roe v. Wade was decided only 6 years after Loving v. Virginia…), I don’t take our hard-won rights for granted - and I stand in solidarity with those fighting for reproductive liberty, today and always. Let’s pass Prop 5, Vermont! #loveislove #reproductiverights
